How to fix error 1601 1604 when unlock iPhone with Winpwn

 

Phew … i feel much better now. After almost 2 hours toying around with Winpwn, worrying my phone ends up a brick, i finally can bypass the 1601 error when restoring the custom firmware. FYI i followed the guide on theiphoneproject and used winpwn 2.0.0.3.

If you can create the firmware but have trouble installing it, try to:

  1. Restore your phone to normal mode
  2. Turned it off (hold the sleep/wake button for about 3-5 seconds)
  3. Connect it to your computer then press and hold the home button immediately when the cable is plugged in
  4. The phone is now in restoration mode (you will have a iTunes icon and a cable on your phone’s display)
  5. Try to install the new firmware. If it doesn’t work follow step 6
  6. With the phone is still in restoration mode and connected, turn it to DFU mode
  7. Try to install the new firmware again. If it works, then congratulation, you will only need to wait about 10 minutes for restoring the new firmware. Otherwise goodluck on your google quest :-)

    Also, be sure to use an iPhone cable for any restore! An older iPod cable, while they work for all other purposes, will sometimes generate 1600, 1601, and 1602 errors!!

    i am using iphone 8gb, itunes 8 ask me to upgrade my iphone to 2.2.1 i accepted, the upgrade was completed, then i tried to install qwpwn & Cydia but the computer restart alone & i got a problem that my iphone stop responding now it always give me on screen itunes & the cable of usb, i try to connect it to pc but itunes cant recognise it, bref i've try to go dfu by pressing the power button & home then after the apple appear i leave the power when i hear the beep sound of the usb on my pc i leave the home button here the itunes read my iphone but when trying to restore it give me error 1601 ...
    ANY SOLUTION PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ???

    I just found that errors 1601 and 1604 (I had both) are caused by some stopped Windows service. Now I started most of them and got all OK!!! My bad that I tuned system to start services by minimum, this had cost me some nerves...
